ON THE ORIGIN OF RHYTHMIC LAYERING IN CARBONATE-SILICEOUS PACKETS FROM THE SMAGIN SUITE OF THE KAMCHATSKY MYS PENINSULA

The paper considers the problem of the genesis of Cretaceous paleoîceanic deposits built by rhythmic packets of jasper and limestone from the Smagin Suite of the Kamchatsky Mys Peninsula. Two alternative models are proposed to explain the origin of this association which invoke either periodic volcanism or climatic oscillations.
