Аннотация

В северо-восточной Атлантике расположены (с юга на север) архипелаги вулканических островов Зеленого Мыса, Канарский, Селваженш, Мадейра и Азорский. Они были сформированы на океанической коре в миоцен-четвертичное время. Анализ геологического строения тридцати островов позволяет сделать вывод о том, что половина из них в ходе своей эволюции были разрушены в разное время катастрофическими оползневыми процессами. На некоторых из этих островов такие события происходили неоднократно. Они вызывали цунами и формировали крупные оползневые массы в прилегающих частях океана. На основании представленных данных сделано предположение о вулканических сооружениях, которые могут быть разрушенными оползневыми процессами. Предпосылкой для возникновения оползней на вулканической постройке могло быть смещение ее центра тяжести.
