Chasha crater, Tolmachev Dol

Chasha ("Chalice") crater located among the basaltic cinder cones of Tolmachev Dol (Plateau). The larger crater, filled with a lake, has a smaller and less deep twin one (at the right). The twinned crater formed about 4600 14C years BP and produced about 1 km3 of rhyolitic tephra (marker ash layer OPtr). Upper part of the crater wall is composed of the erupted products, while lower part exposes old plateau basalts.
