Shiveluch

Outcrop about 13 km southeast of Shiveluch volcano exposes two pyroclastic flow units and  numerous fall and surge horizons interlayered with paleosols. Trees at the top of the photo were killed by pumice fall from the 1964 eruption. People at the base of the outcrop are sampling paleosol from under the lower flow unit in order to determine its age with the help of radiocarbon method. The deposits exposed here are younger than 5500 years BP.
