Bezymianny

Measuring an outcrop at the northeastern foot of Bezymianny volcano. Upper unit is the 1956 debris avalanche deposit from Bezymianny volcano. It is underlain by gray ash from the 1955 moderate eruption preceding the catastrophic 1956 sector collapse. Below the Bezymianny avalanche deposit we see a fragment of soil-pyroclastic sequence with light-pale ash from Shiveluch (SH2, about 950 yrs BP). This package overlies debris avalanche deposit from Kamen' extinct volcano, which formed about 1200 yrs BP during the active period of Bezymianny volcano and probably was triggered by volcanic earthquakes.
