Bezymianny

Bezymianny volcano (at the foreground) is located at the slope of its gigantic neighbour, extinct Kamen’ volcano. Bezymianny had been dormant for about 1000 years prior to its 1955-1956 violent eruption, very similar to Mt. St.Helens 1980 one, that decapitated its cone and formed a large horseshoe-shaped crater. Novy (“New”) extrusive dome has been formed in the crater since the 1956. Some of the extrusive domes at the foreground predate Bezymianny, while the uppermost (Expedition dome) is a flank vent of Bezymianny and formed about 2800 14C years BP.
