VONA/KVERT DAILY REPORT
Kamchatkan and Northern Kuriles Volcanic Activity

December 06, 2013, all time is UTC

KLYUCHEVSKOY VOLCANO (CAVW #1000-26-)
56.06 N, 160.64 E; Elevation 15580 ft (4750 m)
Aviation Color Code is RED

Explosive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions began to occur from 20:45 UTC on December 06. Ash plumes rose up to 6 km a.s.l. and were extending > 300 km to the north, north-east and after that to the east of the volcano. Weak ash falls was noted at Klyuchi Village from 23:00 UTC on December 06.

SHEVELUCH VOLCANO (CAVW #1000-27-)
56.64 N, 161.32 E; Elevation 10768 ft (3283 m), the dome elevation ~8200 ft (2500 m)
Aviation Color Code is ORANGE

Eruption of the volcano continues: a new lava dome continues to extrude on the north-western part of the old lava dome, moderate ash explosions up to 13,100-16,400 ft (4-5 km) a.s.l., fumarolic activity and incandescence of the dome summit and hot avalanches accompanies this process. Satellite data showed a bright thermal anomaly over the lava dome.

KARYMSKY VOLCANO (CAVW #1000-13-)
54.05 N, 159.44 E; Elevation 4874 ft (1486 m)
Aviation Color Code is ORANGE

Moderate seismic activity of the volcano continues. Strombolian and moderate Vulcanian activity of the volcano continues. Satellite data showed a bright thermal anomaly over the volcano. Ash plume extended 82 km to the east of the volcano.

BEZYMIANNY VOLCANO (CAVW #1000-25-)
55.97 N, 160.6 E; Elevation 9453 ft (2882 m)
Aviation Color Code is YELLOW

Weak seismic activity of the volcano continues. Satellite data showed a weak thermal anomaly over the volcano.

PLOSKY TOLBACHIK VOLCANO (CAVW #1000-24-)
55.83 N, 160.39 E; Elevation 10119 ft (3085 m)
Aviation Color Code is YELLOW

Weak seismic activity of the volcano continues. Satellite data showed a thermal anomaly over the northern area of Tolbachinsky Dol.

KIZIMEN VOLCANO (CAVW #1000-23-)
55.13 N, 160.32 E; Elevation 8151 ft (2485 m)
Aviation Color Code is YELLOW

Weak seismic activity of the volcano continues. Satellite data showed a weak thermal anomaly over the volcano.

GORELY VOLCANO (CAVW #1000-07-)
52.56 N, 158.03 E; Elevation 5996 ft (1828 m)
Aviation Color Code is YELLOW

Weak seismic activity of the volcano continues. Satellite data showed a weak thermal anomaly over the volcano.

The real-time seismic monitoring for 11 Kamchatkan volcanoes is producing of the Kamchatkan Branch of Geophysical Survey (KBGS) RAS: http://www.emsd.ru.
The daily satellite monitoring for 36 volcanoes of Kamchatkan and Northern Kuriles are producing of Alaska Volcano Observatory (http://www.avo.alaska.edu/) and KVERT.

Aviation Colour Codes

GREEN

Volcano is in normal, non-eruptive state

or, after a change from a higher level:

Volcanic activity considered to have ceased, and volcano reverted to its normal, non-eruptive state.

YELLOW

Volcano is experiencing signs of elevated unrest above known background levels.

or, after a change from higher level:

Volcanic activity has decreased significantly but continues to be closely monitored for possible renewed increase.

ORANGE

Volcano is exhibiting heightened unrest with increased likelihood of eruption.

   or,

Volcanic eruption is underway with no or minor ash emission.
[specify ash-plume height if possible]

RED

Eruption is forecast to be imminent with significant emission of ash into the atmosphere likely.

  or,

Eruption is underway with significant emission of ash into the atmosphere.
[specify ash-plume height if possible]
